Aren’t they adorable? I can’t imagine ever tiring of doing couple/engagement sessions. It’s such an honor to be so intimately included in that special season of two people’s lives!
For this shoot I tried really hard to break my “spray and pray” habit and managed to keep the photo count down to about 150. This was very nerve wracking since I’m always petrified of missing a shot but I can see why everyone recommends it- the editing only took a few hours! I also think I’m finally beginning to “see” the light (what every YouTube photography guru talks about incessantly) because I’ve noticed a huge difference in my photos. Obviously, there is still oodles left to learn but it’s encouraging to look back on older shoots with equally cute couples and track how I’ve grown as a photographer.
Things I learned from this shoot:
1). Light is my best friend. I can meld it/wield it/ do whatever I want with it just as long as I don’t forget it’s there!
2). The couple doesn’t care about artistry (as much as I do). I made this mistake and shot a lot of artsy photos using really pretty compositions but the two lovebirds preferred the more traditional, close-up shots of themselves. Whoops! “One for me and one for thee”, right?
3). Don’t put that camera down! I’ve said that before but obviously forgot because I did it again and missed some very cute, natural looking shots. Grrrr!
